Canceling AOL

Postby tsuckow » Mon Jun 25, 2007 1:05 pm

OK, my buddy at work had to cancel an AOL account for the business that they used when on business trips but don't need anymore.
The account was setup by a long lost IT guy so we had fun.

After the automated system decided it couldn't help us, we were brought to a live person. After giving them all the info, the username, security question and answer we were told that because we were not the secondary or primary contact we could not cancel the account.

The workaround: Download AOL (1 hour), change the secondary contact (5 sec.) and call them back (15 min).

Fun.

PS: the secondary contact is only a name, nothing more and you only have to login to change it, theres no verification. So if we had the password, why couldn't we do it over the phone?
