I'm pretty sure that's also the reason for D&D's resurect spell. Alot of the old monters are only killable if you know what their weakness is, so there was a ton of trial and error involved.
Of course this was all before today's play style of every player owning a Monster Manual and playing Dire Half Dragon Vampire Lich lycanthropes.
This sword calls me it's master, but I feel more like it's slave.

That's weird, it's seems like on the old FFs every monsters weakness is getting hit in the face (It's true).

Captain Thark wrote:Okay, I'm currently GMing an RPG based on Final Fantasy. It's an original game world that's hevely inspired by the games, and I'll be using Savge Worlds for the system.
I've got some Final Fantasy trappings I plan to use in it:
Summons
Airships
Chocobos
Potions
Black and White Mages
Overly large swords
Limit Breaks
Cid

So, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on things that would give it more Final Fantasy flavor, or any comments on the basic idea itself.
If this is succesful I might start posting transcripts of the sessions (or podcast them, if Panda lets us use his not-iPod).
Heck, I might share my setting rules if anyone is interested.

What do you mean plan to use oversized Great Swords I "AM" Using one

i think he was refering to that edge that he revealed last time...

and to toast... yes hit in the face was their weakness...
but that is why games like chrono trigger came out... every fight is a challenge to break the pattern and kill the monster, somtimes hitting them in the face=hitting yourself in the balls...

yes we know your sword is big... but does it work like a big sword... +3 reach... like my Blood sword with BloodShadow-ShadowBlood The Master of Blood-o-mancy, The EMO-mancer... NO that's right. also does it do STR+2+6d6 i don't think so...
(yes that IS over powered... if only i could roll above someones parry on my D12 BUT NO)

and on a side note... hey look
<--- over there
