It says it's in Washington, so I was wondering if any of you were actually taught with one of those methods. We did the original algorithms in Indianapolis, so I was shocked to see stuff like that being taught. So, the question remains, did anyone get taught that way?

Algorithms from the start.

Although, i wonder if they learn the basics first before that.

26 * 31 = (20+6)*31 = 20*31 + 6 * 31 is part of algebra i believe.

I learned multiplication algorythms in 3rd grade... not sure about division.

The algorythm should be better explained later in math but still before algebra.

Those books are BS

My thinking of how it should be:

  1. Introduction to Math : Basic + and -
  2. Basic Math : Mastery of + & -, intro to * & /
  3. Basic Math Cont. : Mastery of basic * and /, Intro to the algorythms
  4. Mastery of Basics : Master algorythms for Integers, Welcome to the world of decimals and negatives
  5. Order of Operations: Breaking things up, why do the algorythms work

  6. Advanced operations: Powers, Roots and making equations simpler to solve
  7. Basic Algebra: The world of variables
  8. Advanced Algebra: Solving Equations with advanced operations

  9. Geometry: ...
  10. ...

You forgot negatives. We didn't touch negatives till Middle School.

I was homeschooled until 8th grade so I used standard algorithims
Carla: Turk, why is there a pancake in the silverware drawer?
Turk: You mean why is there silverware in the pancake drawer. Whu-ha!

GOD DAMN!
are people actually LEARNING that way...
holy CRAP.
i would like kill my self if i had to go through all that shit...
i just remembered that my bro was learning that latus way and break apart way...
my mom couldn't help so she taught him the standard formula... his teacher got very mad at my mom... but ya...
the standard is way faster and more efficant, it builds logical thinking so WTF.
