Background Compute

Postby tsuckow » Sun Jul 15, 2007 10:33 am

So I was hoping to get some coding done on Background Compute this weekend. BUT, Friday the 13'th seemed to have a sense of humor when it took out our XServe at work. It just happened to be one of THE most important servers in the company. It's also one of the few important servers that doesn't use RAID.

The primary hard disk puked its guts out on us and gave us a lovely "Folder with a question mark" at boot. We've had to run the server on 2 other iMacs with the $3000 server acting as a drive enclosure so we can get the data off.

So fun stuff, we got the Primary disk to mount but its moving a hundred Gig's at less than 1Meg per second (do the math, it equals 2+ Days).

I've lost what little faith I had in Seagate drives.
